Happy New Year...

and we all wonder...what will this year bring to us...how will Cuba change...who will be born...

Who will die? Will it be a better place...there is always hope that Cubans will see a better day.

Feliz ano nuevo!

And how many mass graves of the victims of Castro will be unearthed?

In Cuba only time will tell...I don't think they will ever drain the Gulfstream...the Straits of Florida for those victims that drowned trying to escape. It is sad history.

Is this image really from el Cementerio de Colon? I've been hearing about the dessecrated graves for a while and the bones regados por todos lados, but I've never seen it on images before...

Cubanita...yes it is! What happens is a family will inter a family member in this beautiful cemetary...after two years they must then either buy a cement box and place their loved ones in a mausoleum (I think $10 a year) or take out their family and place them someplace else. This photo was taken in an area where if you don't make those arrangements, the bones are just tossed into a large pit that has large metal doors over it. I was taken back by what I saw and then found out why. As I have gone back to the cemetary it's not unusual to see coffins out in the open and and broken into. It is sad...but I think the need for clothing and shoes...possibly the lure of anything of value there are thieves. But then in light of the situation in Cuba...stealing from the living or dead is a epidemic.
